The Challenge of Emotional Innovation

Microsoft Surface represents a unique opportunity and challenge. Dennis Wixon, of Microsoft Surface Computing, will detail in this session how Surface introduces an exciting innovation in user interaction: the New User Interface (NUI) uses a combination of natural gestures and subtle affordances to create a powerful and desirable interface. As the last breakthrough in interfaces, the GUI (Graphical User Interface), spawned a new generation of applications and democratized computing, the NUI promises to take this process to the next level. Dennis will also describe the evolution of the NUI design and the research that supports and refines it.
